Job Description

Reports To: Associate Director, Career Advising and Education

Overview: Develops, monitors and oversees a comprehensive offering of programs, events and services designed to assist students in the area of internships/career services and development in alignment with the Augustana 2020 strategic plan. Works collaboratively with colleagues within the CORE Office to integrate services and meet the needs of students, faculty, alumni and the business community. Creates programs and service offerings to ensure Augustana students are well prepared for the world of work.

Job Duties:

1. Identifies needs and creates/revises programs to meet the needs of students regarding resume preparation, interviewing skills, networking, identifying job/internship openings, internship readiness & reflections and other topics.

2. Meets with individual students to provide counseling as requested, provides timely follow-up and markets this service to students across the campus.

3. Presents topics of interest to educate students on the skills and qualities necessary for internship and career success, either or inside or outside the classroom setting. Provides content in a format and style that engages a wide variety of students and creates effective outcomes.

4. Collaborates with faculty and staff across campus to identify current and future needs of students of different majors, providing direction, support, and information on internship/career issues.

5. Serves as a liaison to the employer community in promoting our services and providing information on how employers can best market their opportunities to students and alumni.

6. Contributes to the development of program guidelines and policies.

7. Works to provide information and engage faculty members in providing internship/career services for students of all majors and those contemplating graduate school.

8. Conducts ongoing assessment and evaluation of programs; prepares summary reports on learning outcomes and participation of students.

9. Works with and delegates projects to career mentors and other student workers, ensuring the work products and outcomes meet the high standards of the College.

10. Assists with the planning and execution of career and graduate school fairs and other events (including on-campus recruiting) that engages students with employers and graduate schools.

11. Participates in admissions events designed to attract new students to the college.

12. Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements 

Education MA in Student Personnel or related program required. BA with equivalent related work experience may be substituted.



  • 2+ years of demonstrated human resource, career services, academic counseling or related experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with young adults or in a higher education setting is preferred as well as a passion and understanding of the Liberal Arts setting.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on meeting the needs of a diverse student population.

  • Proficient with of Microsoft Office Products, social media and web applications; knowledge of Handshake or similar career management system preferred.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision. Ability to develop excellent rapport with students in a one on one setting.

  •  Ability to multi-task with commitment to excellence.

  •  Ability to think creatively and develop programs to meet the changing needs of a diverse student base.

  • Evening and weekend work is required on a periodic basis.

  •  Current valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Special Requirements: Evening and weekend work is required on a periodic basis. Current valid driver's license is required. Limited travel for site visits is required.
