Job Description:

The University of Illinois is located in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana in central Illinois. POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Director provides leadership for student outreach as a member of the Career Education Team. This position focuses on leading and managing the Career Services Paraprofessional Program (peer-to-peer career services) and outreach to student organizations on campus. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with other Career Education team members to provide meaningful career exploration, preparation, and experiential learning programs, services and resources for students. As a member of The Career Center staff, this position responds to student needs, facilitates appropriate and timely service delivery (in person and virtual); conducts individual career coaching appointments; assesses learning and service outcomes; interprets assessment instruments; plans and presents programs and workshops; coordinates events and activities; utilizes career technologies; develops print and virtual resources; and has direct contact with students on a daily basis in a variety of settings. 


Job Requirements:


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Specific to this Position • Lead and manage the Career Services Paraprofessional (CSP) program, comprised of 15-25 undergraduate students, including 3-4 student leaders, and one graduate student, who facilitate workshops, review resumes and cover letters, and represent The Career Center (TCC) at campus events • Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluations of the undergraduate CSPs; supervise and perform timely performance evaluations for the graduate assistant. • Manage the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services delivered by CSPs and/or the Career Education Team • Coordinate staffing of campus services, programs and events by CSP’s, participation in campus career events, classroom presentations, and student organization programs • Manage the resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile review services offered at The Career Center and other campus locations, including determining appropriate and responsive hours of service and staffing levels • Develop and implement outreach strategies targeting registered student organizations that inform and encourage usage of The Career Center’s services and programs • Plan and coordinate the distribution of promotional materials on campus, in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Marketing, Communication, and Event Planning • Collaborate with Career Education team and other staff on various projects and events • Maintain contact with alumni who once served as paraprofessionals at The Career Center Common to all Career Center Professionals • Coach students one-on-one and in groups regarding career exploration and decision making, preparation for graduate/professional school, and finding jobs and internships • Engage diverse student populations and offices that serve underrepresented students • Assess services and programs to determine student learning outcomes, make evidence-based decisions, and facilitate continuous improvement • Serve as a liaison to designated departments and offices and maintain relationships with campus partners • Create and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences, including students, families, campus partners, and external colleagues • Contribute to the design, creation, and maintenance of print and online resources • Participate in professional development activities and associations • Serve on The Career Center, Student Affairs and/or campus committees, task forces, work groups, and advisory committees POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Required Qualifications • Master’s degree. Individuals working towards a master’s degree must complete the degree by starting date • Demonstrated understanding of diverse populations and knowledge of cultural differences • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment • Experience providing high quality customer service • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work priorities and details Preferred Qualifications • Master’s degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education administration, human resources, or related field • Experience leading, training, supervising, and evaluating student workers or paraprofessionals • Experience creating and facilitating educational workshops • Demonstrated understanding of career development theory and practice • Experience developing and maintaining professional relationships • Experience providing one-on-one counseling, advising, or coaching • Highly motivated to think creatively, listen and respond to student needs, make data-driven decisions and enhance collaborative innovation in career services Appointment Type Regular twelve month, 100% academic professional appointment Salary Range and Starting Date Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Starting date is as soon as possible after close of search.
