Job Description:

Established in 1804, Ohio University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Ohio and the first in the Northwest Territory. The beautiful, historic residential campus is located in the rolling foothills of Southeast Ohio in the quintessential college town of Athens, Ohio. With over 17,300 undergraduates and more than 4,000 graduate students enrolled from all 50 states and nearly 100 foreign countries, the Athens campus is a dynamic and diverse learning community. The Career & Leadership Development Center supports all students as they move through their initial adjustment to college, to selecting a major, to acquiring internship experience, to developing leadership skills and helping students understand the application of these skills in a lifelong career development process. The College of Arts and Sciences Office of Student Affairs assists students with academic concerns, such as advising and career choices or change of major, as well as overseeing administrative matters related to academic progress and retention, academic suspension, reinstatement, and graduation conferral. Students may meet with a professional advisor by appointment or on Walk-in-Wednesdays, to discuss academic matters. A weekly electronic newsletter, the eNEWS, conveys news by email, Twitter and Facebook, for and about A&S students and faculty. The eNews provides information of special interest to A&S undergraduate students about the university and the community at large and keeps readers up to date regarding scholarships and application deadlines, internships, awards, study abroad opportunities and information sessions, faculty lectures, campus events, and more. The Assistant Director will have a shared responsibility between the Career & Leadership Development Center (CLDC) and the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) with a primary focus on offering career coaching and internship help for students in A & S. This individual will assist students with all aspects of career development including identifying majors, career goals, resume development, preparation for graduate/professional school, and employability skills. The Assistant Director will help with the development of both employment and internship opportunities for A&S students. Specific to this position: • Provide career and internship/job search coaching to A&S students • Engage students in activities related to chosen career fields • Develop and present career and internship workshops for classes and student organizations • Assist with the organization of career fairs and special events • Serve as liaison to A&S student organizations and faculty • Assess services/programs to determine student needs/learning outcomes and facilitate continuous improvement • Use social networking tools to enhance student and alumni networking and career building activities • Teach CAS 1300- Career Development for the Liberal Arts • Utilize technology and resources to guide students through the career and leadership development process • Serve on college and division teams, committees, task forces, and work groups • Perform other duties as assigned Ohio University is committed to creating a respectful and inclusive educational and workplace environment. Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree required by the time of the appoitment. At least one year of experience in academic advising or career counseling/coaching at the college-level. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; team oriented individual who is available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
