Associate Director, Experiential Education

Job Description:

Oversee experiential education efforts of the Pomerantz Career Center including academic courses, programs, registration processes and external consulting with host sites. Work in conjunction with colleagues on and off campus to consult with organizations on the development of internship sites and best practices for those programs. Assist in the evaluation and creation of program assessment and evaluation as applicable. Key Areas of Responsibility & Job Duties: Enhance and Support Student Educational Experiences and Increase Retention. Foster a Sense of Community and Engagement for Students •Advise, orient and provide assistance to students, faculty and staff in the use of internship search resources •Review, update and expand career resources related to internships and experiential education •Provide specialized reports to distribute as requested •Stay informed of other campus resources that support student success, in particular related to experiential education •Develop, manage, and facilitate internship and experiential education-related programs, courses and workshop. •Evaluate feasibility and create externship or job shadowing experience options or similar for first and second year students. Establish and Maintain Relationships with Partners to Provide Educational Support Services. Partners Include on-campus Units and External Agencies •Meet with employers via technology (email, skype, phone) or in person to consult on internship creation and conduct site visits to students internship sites as needed •Ensure that internship site consultations are aligned with employer development plan as assigned by the assistant Provost •Fully knowledgeable about the logistics and data management of system •Use knowledge of business and industry to support Experiential Education team •Identify organizations for whom UI students and graduates would be a good match and visit these sites, developing and nurturing strong relationships and promoting the involvement of a wide range of private sector constituents with the UI in relation to Internship site hosts •Serve as a resource person for various colleges and departments in their accreditation process by providing information relative to internship hiring •Co-lead the Experiential Education Team •Assist with welcoming applicable employers participating in on-campus recruiting as needed •Assess, evaluate and report on student learning and development as a result of participating in internship and other experiential learning experiences •Collaborate with colleagues across campus to develop relationships in the Des Moines metro area with AIB staff and faculty and business partners to support possible future internship program development Administrative (HR, Budget), Supervision and Training •Work with a team to review, design, organize and promote campus-wide utilization of internship and other experiential education services •Develop, manage and evaluate internship-related programs, processes and academic courses as directed including course supervision and curriculum •Work with experiential team and campus colleagues to evaluate current practices and implement new tracking and data collection methods for internship experiences •Manage print and web materials for employers on internship development and best-practices Student Growth, Development and Success •Assist with developing learning outcomes for internship/experiential programs related to student success with multiple departments across campus; plan, execute and assess a broad-range of career development programs and services aimed at achieving those outcomes Strategic Planning and Program Development •Make strategic planning recommendations and ensure strategic goal attainment for experiential education in alignment with employer outreach initiatives and student learning objectives *Note to applicants: The qualifications of this job posting are described as competencies or behaviors needed to perform the job duties of this position at a defined proficiency level/standard. Job Requirements:

Education Required: A Master’s degree in Student Development, Counseling, Higher Education, Business Administration, Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing a comparable level of expertise. Experience Required: •Experience (typically 3-5 years) in a career advising or internship program management or in an internship supervisory role preferably including advising students on decision-making strategies, career/alternative exploration, and job search strategies. •Demonstrates a working proficiency in academic assessment methods and activities; ability to assess research and instructional programs and review students’ learning outcomes to ensure achievement of academic objectives and strategies. •Demonstrates an extensive proficiency in experience with educational programming, facilitation or classroom instruction. •Demonstrates an extensive proficiency in experience with developing and/or supervising internship, experiential or cooperative programs for college level students including critical thinking and decision making. •Demonstrates an extensive proficiency communicating complex concepts with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner. Desirable Qualifications: Experience advising students on decision making strategies, career/alternative exploration, and job search strategies.
