Job Description:

· Student Development Advising - Advises Purdue students and alumni individually or in groups about career and personal development to ensure a positive transition from higher education to the world of work. Develops services, programming, workshops and events that support the intersection of education and career goals. Identifies and addresses developmental issues related to transition such as motivation, decision making and self-efficacy. Educates constituents about the tools, resources and services available to assist in their career planning and goals attainment.

· Campus Collaborator - Serves as the department liaison to the campus community to establish and maintain strong partnerships with campus colleagues and faculty. Serves as the liaison between the department and student organizations. Designs programs, creates presentations, and leads workshops for academic units, classes, student organizations, and university groups to educate a diverse population about career issues. Collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop partnerships that meet the strategic goals of the department and the University, such as pre and post-graduation survey data collection, programming for students, staff and employers. Serve as a member/leader of project teams based on department strategic goals. Consult with faculty, student organizations and other campus offices to promote and improve the Career Center's overall delivery of services. Participate in the Faculty Advisory Council and other campus outreach initiatives to market and promote department initiatives. Maintains an effective On Campus Student Employment program assisting students that are seeking employment on campus in collaboration with university departments and the federal work-study program. 

· Marketing & Promotion - Create a greater awareness the Career Center by developing creative and intentional marketing and outreach strategies to encourage use by employers, faculty, staff, students and alumni. Contribute to the overall marketing by developing ideas or collateral such as event posters, event announcements and web communications. Coordinate events, conduct classroom presentations, and participate in New Student Orientation, Get S.E.T., information tables and other campus events. Design and implement career services programming on a variety of topics such as resume, interviewing, salary negotiation, compensation and benefits, social networking, graduate school, workplace transitions, dress, professional dining etiquette.

· Other - Demonstrate continued growth and development through participation and leadership in professional organizations, campus committees, and in-house professional development activities. Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and/or department head.


Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree required. Two years of experience in higher education, career services or related field as a graduate assistant or fullt ime professional. Ability to assist clients through the career development process (self-assessment, career exploration, decision making and career planning). Knowledge of career development theory and practices, job search strategies, employment trends, and current print and online career resources, including designing and executing workshops and presentations on career-related topics. Must have a working knowledge of career services management systems, human resource management systems (HRIS) or student database management systems (Banner) or proficiency in technology to deliver services. Knowledge of assessment and survey methodology and experience analyzing data and presenting data. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must be able to promote and present technologies and services to small and large groups of diverse populations. Must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, employers, students and alumni. Must practice effective time management and organization. Ability to meet deadlines in a high paced environment with accurate results. Ability to exceed customer expectations on a daily basis. Demonstrated ability to learn, use own initiative to explore capabilities to enhance productivity. Ability to make sound judgements and observe confidentiality at all times. Knowledge of student employment, human resources and employment law is a plus.

Master’s degree preferred in CACREP accredited program in Mental Health Counseling, Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs.
