Career Development Coordinator - Internships

Job Description:

PRIMARY DUTY: The Career Development Coordinator-Internships is responsible for managing and promoting student experiential learning (internship) activities University-wide; monitoring related legal issues to ensure program compliance. This professional provides individual and group career counseling; job and internship search assistance; conducts career related presentations; develops and maintains relations with academic and student services units, business, industry, educational and community organizations, contributes to departmental data collection, analysis and publication and maintains the unit’s electronic presence and its integrity.




1. Manage and promote University-wide internship program designed to enhance academic programs and enrich student experiences toward a lifetime of meaningful career success

2. Partner with the deans, faculty and employers to expand and enhance academic experiential learning opportunities in all University disciplines

3. Serve as the University’s experiential leaning knowledge center and support for faculty, student and employer participation ensuring program and participant compliance in domestic and international locations

4. Collaborate with the director in setting annual internship program developmental goals

5. Track, collect, maintain and report internship program data to director and University community

6. Facilitate individual and group career counseling activities in all areas of academic career development (major decision through graduate program acceptance or job offer assessment)

7. Conduct career related presentations in classrooms, workshops, public and professional association forums

8. Work with the employer relations coordinator to establish and maintain relationships with representatives of school districts, businesses, industries and governmental agencies as potential partners/mentors for interns and /or employers of Northwest’s degree candidates

9. Coordinate office marketing initiatives; work collaboratively on the development and maintenance of career publications, annual reports, and marketing/technology initiatives.

10. Develop new marketing tools (job announcements, social media, emails, website postings, radio, etc.) to attract target applicants and promote internship/employment opportunities

11. Manage the department’s electronic presence consulting with University Webmaster as needed

12. Collaborate on supervision of career ambassador team and student web assistant

13. Provide guidance to staff on strategic acquisitions/investments (software and consulting services) to support and advance the unit’s mission

14. Represent the office as needed on University and student services committees as well as community and regional efforts

15. Participate in all departmental events including evening calls to new graduates for outcomes data

16. Perform other administrative duties and assignments as delegated by the director


Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s degree Certification/License: Driver’s license Skills: Strong verbal and written skills; Ability to revise written material used for promotions, presentations, workshops and marketing; Outstanding communication and leadership skills with a customer service orientation; Proven organizational and time management skills; Ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time; Willingness to travel occasionally to employer sites, career events and conferences; Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with diverse stakeholder groups; Technical competencies with Microsoft products


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: 2-4 years experience in a related field Working knowledge of university infrastructure, policies and procedures; General knowledge of career or academic counseling and advising; Knowledge and application of word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets and web research/utilization; supervision of others WORKING CONDITIONS: May be required to work some weekends and evenings; Occasional travel to employer sites, career events and conferences; Light work, 20 pounds lifting or carrying on an occasional basis EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: General office equipment
