Job Description:

Provide coaching and advising to students and alumni regarding career planning needs and generate strategies for planning one’s future. Partnering with student groups, alumni and faculty, develop and administer outreach programs addressing life after Lawrence, including, but not limited to determining strengths, interests and skills, honing job/internship search and interviewing skills, and applying to graduate or professional schools. On behalf of students, utilize alumni and friends of the university, staff and faculty to encourage networking connections. DUTIES: 1. Provide appropriate career exploration/planning advice to students and alumni. Develop and maintain relationships with students for ongoing outreach and networking purposes as appropriate. 2. Design and facilitate programs, based on an understanding of career development theory and its applications in today’s marketplace, that address self- assessment, occupational assessment and career implementation components of the career development process (e.g., networking, self-presentation, workplace etiquette and making the transition to Life after Lawrence.) 3. Partner with Technology Specialist on best practices as they relate to the use of technology (e.g., blogging, utilizing social media, maintaining web-site.) 4. Serve as a collaborative colleague by leading and participating in various department-wide projects and/or events as prioritized and assigned. 5. Serve as active member of Career Services and student affairs staffs. Promote offerings by building rapport with student organizations, staff, faculty, coaches, alumni and friends of the university. 6. Supervise student Career Assistants as appropriate. 7. Attend regional workshops or professional meetings on behalf of the university upon request. 8. Other duties as assigned. 



Job Requirements:

1. Master's degree in college student personnel or counseling or related field preferred. Prior experience working in a higher education setting preferred and/or Human Resources function. 2. Well-developed interpersonal, group facilitation and strategic planning skills. 3. Ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative spirit with supervisor and colleagues. 4. Demonstrated ability to use and aptitude for technology and social media. Experience with databases or program management software. 5. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills. Attention to details and deadlines; ability to manage multiple, competing priorities. Self-motivated, responsive and desire for continuous improvement, ability and willingness to take initiative. High level of flexibility to meet changing student and staff needs. Ability to network students with alumni and friends of the university. 6. Capable of effectively representing Career Services on campus and externally to employers and alumni. 7. Ability to network students with one another, alumni and/or friends of the university. 8. Ability and desire to stay current on resources available, employment trends and student engagement. 9. Position requires the ability and willingness to do evening and occasional weekend hours as needed. 10. Valid driver’s license. 11. Commitment to the values and mission of a residential, liberal arts college. 12. Must have successful completion of criminal record, driving record (where applicable) and reference checks.
