The University of Illinois is located in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana in central Illinois. The campus is situated between the three major metropolitan areas of Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis and is considered one of the top comprehensive research public universities in the nation. POSITION TITLE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR for Marketing, Communications, and Event Planning The Career Center, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Director is a full-time (100%) 12-month appointment in The Career Center, a unit of Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Assistant Director leads the Center’s marketing and communication efforts, including creating and implementing the Center’s marketing plan, communicating with external and internal constituents, and planning various events and programs. This position leads creation of all print materials, manages social media presence, and contributes to website content. As a member of The Career Center staff, this position also responds to student needs, facilitates appropriate and timely service delivery (in person and virtual); conducts individual career coaching appointments; assesses learning and service outcomes; interprets assessment instruments; plans and presents programs and workshops; coordinates events and activities; utilizes career technologies; develops print and virtual resources; and has direct contact with students on a daily basis in a variety of settings. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Specific to this Position 1. Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive, data-driven marketing and communications strategy that drives awareness of the Center’s programs, services, and resources using multiple platforms to ensure overall consistency of marketing and messaging efforts 2. Manage planning, logistics, promotion, and staffing for the Center’s career fairs, events, and open houses 3. Develop and implement specific marketing strategies for programs led by the Center’s staff 4. Oversee the creation, editing, and distribution of print materials and messages, including brochures, informational handouts, flyers, announcements, press releases, and annual report 5. Manage website content, online calendar, social media presence, and use of other online media 6. Develop and distribute messaging for multiple audiences that demonstrates the value of The Career Center 7. Develop and manage marketing and communication budget based upon strategic planning, competitive pricing, unit budget resources, and in accordance with department guidelines 8. Oversee selection, purchase, inventory and distribution of branded promotional items 9. Evaluate and report on impact and outcomes of marketing and communication efforts 10. Hire, train, supervise, and conduct timely performance evaluations of undergraduate and/or graduate student(s) 11. Serve as media relations contact for the Center by responding to requests from the student newspaper, campus News Bureau, Public Affairs staff, off campus media and students completing class assignments Common to all Career Center Professionals 1. Counsel students one-on-one and in groups regarding career exploration and decision making, preparation for health professions and/or graduate school, and employment/internship search 2. Outreach to diverse student populations and offices that serve underrepresented student populations 3. Assess services and programs to determine student learning outcomes and facilitate continuous improvement 4. Serve as a liaison to designated departments and offices, in order to maintain relationships with campus partners and better meet the needs of the students they serve 5. Create and deliver presentations for variety of audiences, including students, parents, campus partners, and external colleagues 6. Utilize virtual technologies and resources in the delivery of service to students 7. Administer and interpret career assessments 8. Design, write, and update career and pre-professional development (e.g. health professions, graduate school, career counseling) resources, including print and online content 9. Participate in professional development activities and associations 10. Serve on The Career Center, Student Affairs and/or campus committees, task forces, work groups, and advisory committees, and participate in staff development activities. 



Job Requirements:

POSITION REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS Required Education: Master’s degree. Preferred Education: Master’s degree in communication, advertising, student affairs, higher education administration, human resources, counseling or other related field. Required Experience: • 1-3 years of experience in higher education, communications, marketing, and/or working with college students • Demonstrated experience serving diverse populations and knowledge of cultural differences • Experience developing, presenting, and evaluating programs and workshops • Experience planning, implementing, and managing events and projects • Excellent customer service and public relations skills, and a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment • Experience with information technology, including use of online resources and presentation software • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills • Experience managing multiple work priorities Preferred Experience: • Understanding of the career and student development needs of college students • Marketing and communication experience using multiple mediums • Experience using design software, such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop • Project management experience • Experience using content management systems, such as Drupal or WordPress, to update and maintain web content
