Job Description:

University of Notre Dame Career Exploration Specialist The University of Notre Dame ( is accepting applications for a Career Exploration Specialist. Applications will be accepted until March 15, 2015. Career Exploration Specialists will serve as generalists across all areas of career development in a career coaching capacity for undergraduate students. This would include working individually with students on choosing a major, conducting a job/internship/graduate school search, preparing resumes/cover letters/graduate school applications, and conducting assessments. Career Exploration Specialists are expected to serve the department as a leader with respect to one or two industries of interest to the student body. Liaison roles to academic areas or other facets of the University may be assigned. Strategically participates in student programming across functions for the department, involving employer relations team, program directors, and operational team as appropriate. Leadership of specific student programming initiatives will be expected – usually this will be in regard to the industry area of expertise, though it is not restricted to it. The industries for this particular opening are: Consulting, Environmental, Healthcare, and Technology. The incumbent will serve as one of the liaisons to the College of Science. Conducts individual student appointments related to all career development topic needs, while serving as an industry focus leader. Connects with career coaching colleagues within the department to successfully partner on programs, workshops, and other career events. Participates in regular Career Coaching meetings and large departmental events, maintains up to date appointment notes, and provides leadership in industry focus area. Covers walk-in hours as needed. Participates in employer development related to area of expertise, collaborating with employer relations team for priorities. Attends employer visits to The Career Center to stay aware of trends and opportunities. Maintains profile in GO IRISH and utilizes other job search engines to facilitate sharing of information with students. Provides leadership to an array of student programming (mentorship programs, networking events, industry nights, etc.) in conjunction with industry expertise area, academic liaison roles, and other topics of interest. Participates in major departmental programming (career fairs, etc.) in support of student participation and successful outcomes. Represents The Career Center across campus and in professional associations/community organizations. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure the success of the Career Center, the University, students, and other stakeholders. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Higher Education or related field Experience in complex career services office or related (higher education, college recruiting, etc.). Appreciation for centralized undergraduate career services model. Understanding of NACE professional standards and career development theory. Exhibits strong ethical standards in an effort to advocate for all students. Advanced communication, program evaluation, and outcomes development skills. Should be able to lift boxes up to 40 pounds. Sense of humor and desire to contribute ideas toward the success of the overall undergraduate career services program essential. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed professional counselors, or certified career coaches preferred. Certifications for specific career assessments also preferred.
