Job Description:

Graduate Career Services (GCS) serves 2200+ full-time Master/PhD students and alumni each year by providing a complete range of workshops and counseling services. The Graduate Career Consultant assists the Program Director with student/alumni advising and programming, maintaining employer relationships and coordinating on-campus interviews and off-campus job postings. Drawing on academic and industry expertise, the Graduate Career Consultant will engage full time Master/PhD students and alumni with a career focus by creating a set of integrated experiences focused on preparing students for a successful job search. The Graduate Career Consultant will manage targeted career paths by engaging with the relevant communities and constituents, including student clubs, alumni, faculty and corporate partners to cultivate student interest and preparedness in assigned area. This position contributes to the GCS strategy and direction, collaborates with the Professional Development team to develop and implement content and programming and reports to the GCS Program Director. - Individual and Group Counseling: Provides individual and group career consulting services to Master/PhD students, with an emphasis on student in the assigned focus area. Consulting includes reviewing/editing resumes and CVs, LinkedIn profiles, and job search correspondence; advising on search strategy approaches; career transition; and coaching on interviewing and negotiation approaches. - Program Design & Delivery: Designs, develops and delivers student programs and workshops (including speakers, career exploration, resume/personal branding, career transitions, networking, interviewing, and negotiation) and provides professional career development and career search consultation for assigned population. - Company Knowledge and Relationship Mgmt: Maintains knowledge of recruitment practices, industry trends, faculty research, alumni base, student clubs, and student needs so as to remain vital and credible for advising purposes and incorporating alumni and/or other guests into workshops and programs. Reaches out to alumni corporate recruiters for expertise, interfaces with corporate recruiters who visit campus and develops and maintains faculty relationships in regard to career development services and activities - Metrics and Reporting: Gathers and tracks student intern and employment information through database management. Conducts analysis of internal/external data sources utilizing Excel and various other reporting software. - Content Creation and Student Media: Remains reasonably conversant with all functions of student services and the graduate school including those beyond career counseling (recruitment and outreach, employment data, general administration). Contributes to the overall programming content and GCS strategy and direction.

Job Requirements:

Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s 3 to 4 years counseling, human resources, business, student services or related field Experience in complex career services office or related (e.g., higher education, recruiting, business, consulting, etc.). Appreciation for working with Masters/PhD students throughout their graduate life cycle and intricacies of academic recruiting processes. Understanding of college career professional standards and career development theory. Exhibits strong ethical standards in an effort to advocate for all students. Advanced communication, program evaluation and outcomes development skills. Experience providing high quality presentations and workshops. Proven project management skills. Understanding of corporate recruiting processes and protocols and talent management through prior business/industry experience. Licensed professional counselor or certified career coach preferred. Certifications and/or knowledge of career assessments preferred e.g., Career Leader, MBTI, etc.
