Career Development Officer, Office of Postdoctoral Studies

Job Description:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) trains approximately 800 postdoctoral scholars across 15 Schools and Colleges predominantly in the biological and physical sciences. A postdoctoral scholar is an individual who has received a doctoral degree (or equivalent) and is engaged in a temporary and defined period of mentored advanced training to enhance the professional skills and research independence needed to pursue his or her chosen career path. The primary focus of the Office of Postdoctoral Studies is to enhance the postdoctoral experience by providing postdoctoral scholars with access to robust professional development training. This position will be responsible for career development programming and counseling, and will report to the Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Studies. This is a new position and an exciting opportunity to shape the direction of the Office's programming and services.


Job Requirements:

Degree and area of specialization: Bachelor's degree required. Master's or other advanced degree preferred with specialization in counseling, education or human resources. Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: At least 3 years experience required in either a higher education setting counseling/advising students regarding career development, or professional experience in related areas such as corporate human resources or career coaching. Experience working in industry or collaborating with industry professionals is desirable. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise is related to careers in the biological or physical sciences.
