Your current position:

Associate Director | Ball State University

Describe your past experiences that will help you be successful in this role:

In various ways since my first Midwest ACE conference back in 2004, I have been involved in leading within the Association. I served on the Assembly as a member and then had opportunities to contribute to the Trends in Recruiting program committee and the Annual Conference registration committee. Eventually I was tapped to chair the Annual conference in 2010. I was elected to the new position of Director—Professional Development in 2011 and served my term before stepping into the 2014 Annual Conference co-chair role. While in that, I was asked to return to the Board as a one-year appointment as the Director—Professional Development. I helped to inaugurate our Association’s efforts as part of the Regional ACEs’ webinar series, coordinating those efforts during my first term and providing the webinar content on behalf of Midwest ACE this past year.

In my “day” job at Ball State University, I’ve had progressive leadership experience within my career services office, starting as a grant-funded Assistant Director before becoming Senior Assistant Director. In 2011, I secured my current role as Associate Director for Employer Relations and Recruitment Programs. I’ve supervised full-time staff, led committee meetings, thought strategically, and put my nose to the grindstone to get things accomplished. In my time in this role, we’ve formalized our employer outreach and services, grown our career fair attendance by candidates and employers, and taken on the “other duties as assigned” mantle a few times too.

In my community I am active on two non-profit boards currently. My six-year term of service for one will end in July, 2015. In this role, I served as Board Chair during a financially perilous time for the organization. Together we were able to establish our footing and begin to move the needle for re-establishing ourselves in the eyes of new and existing donors, volunteers, and community leaders. I worked in 2006 with some others in the community to establish the Muncie Young Professionals. We hashed out all the operational issues to be an organization and provided a social support system for many of the college-educated young people living in Muncie and Delaware County. I started my term of service with another organization this past January where I serve on the Board Transformation and Human Resources committees.


Brief paragraph on why you would be the ideal candidate for this role:

I am interested in serving as the President-Elect of Midwest ACE for the opportunity to give back to the Association that has provided so many opportunities for me. This isn’t a commitment to take lightly and if you know me, when I commit to something, I’m all in. I think that Midwest ACE is in a great place to continue serving our current members and to think in new ways about our profession, our members, and our opportunities for the future. I’m inspired, motivated, and (somewhat frightened) by the legacy of those who have served in this position previously. I aspire to do as good of a job in leading as they did.


What goals do you hope to accomplish during your term:

Midwest ACE has changed in the 10 years that I’ve been a member of the Association. We’ve grown in good ways and struggled in others. I’d like to work with the Board, our committee chairs, and any interested member to make Midwest ACE what we want it to be. I’d live to find ways to collaborate across associations and organizations to provide professional development that is meaningful and is driven by the needs of our members. In short, I’d like to keep the momentum going and tap into the new, innovative, or tried and true ways we have at our disposal to make Midwest ACE even better.
