Assistant Director, Career Development Office

Job Description:

Xavier University, a Catholic University in the Jesuit tradition, invites applications for Assistant Director within the Career Development Office. The positions will report to an Associate Director of Career Development. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitate personal and professional career coaching/advising with students and alumni. • Provide career coaching/advising including career assessments, major and career exploration, job/experiential opportunities/graduate school career planning and search as well as professional skill development through scheduled and walk-in appointments with individuals and groups. • Conduct virtual career coaching/advising sessions with students and alumni using email, phone, and video conferencing technology as needed. • Refer students/alumni to appropriate resources on campus and within the community. • Promote Career Development services, resources and events to clients including online job and internship board, Career Resource Library, XU Mentoring Program, On-Campus Recruiting Program, and more. • In collaboration with the Undergraduate Business Student Office, develop short and long range goals and outcomes for the Business Professions Program – professional development requirement for undergraduate business majors. • Assist students, via reflection and discernment activities, make connections between the value of Jesuit Catholic liberal arts education and vocational/career exploration/development goals as well as educate on how to articulate to potential employers. • Keep abreast of industry and graduate/professional school trends. Plan and execute programs and events. • Develop and conduct both general and major-specific career programming commensurate with academic departmental needs, which may include in-class presentation, campus-wide workshops and/or student club presentations on career planning, graduate school preparation and job/internship-search topics. • Assist with the planning, marketing, and execution of office career fairs and campus programming. Develop and nurture relationships with campus and community liaisons. • Serve as primary liaison to the Williams College of Business overseeing the career and professional development strategy for the Career Development Office. • Serve as liaison to designated departments and university committees as assigned • Develop and conduct in-class and student club presentations on career planning and job-search topics; respond promptly to faculty needs • Actively initiate and maintain partnerships with administrators, faculty, staff and students to educate university community about career services and to develop and facilitate successful student career planning programs • Assist with employer research in support of the department recruiting and employer relations efforts • Develop and maintain community partnerships and relationships to assist with employer and community relations under leadership of the Sr. Assistant Director for External Relations • Work with other Assistant Directors and Associate Director to integrate career-related services between Colleges Supervise the work of the Career Coach and Business Professions Program (BPP) Coordinator. • Supervise the career coaching, walk-in appointments, classroom presentations, and career workshops of career coach • Supervise employer relations activities conducted by career coach • Supervise liaison-related activities and ensure that integration of services occurs within their College • Conduct performance appraisals and attend to the professional development needs of career coach • Supervise the coordination of BPP presentations and workshop logistics and tracking duties of the BPP Coordinator Perform administrative and additional office leadership tasks • Write, design, edit, produce, and oversee development of office publications and promotional materials including brochures, handouts, forms, flyers, and posters as needed and/or in conjunction with Communications Assistant • Research and gather up-to-date information to provide clients with accurate, current, and concise resource materials; keep abreast of industry and graduate/professional school trends • Assist with the development and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes as well as strategic efforts around gathering and analyzing yearly graduation outcomes • Share in office supervision of support staff and student assistants • Accept additional duties when requested or assigned SKILLS INTEGRAL TO POSITION: • Knowledge of career development and student development theories, research and practices, and recruiting trends • Excellent written and verbal communication • Extensive ability to collaborate and develop relationships with a wide range of constituents • Supervision and leadership skills • Knowledge of outcomes assessment, learning outcomes and evaluation strategies • Outstanding teamwork abilities • Innovation and creativity in program development, processes, relationship development and other functions of the position • Ability to develop metrics and methods for continuous improvement of processes, goals, and strategies • Proven presentation, group facilitation, and teaching skills REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Human Resources or related field and 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
