The Career Advisor will assist primarily undergraduate students, along with alumni and graduate students regarding career decision-making, experiential learning opportunities, full-time professional job search strategies and techniques, and career/life planning. The Career Advisor will model inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, students and the community. The position may lead projects or programs, serve as a connection to academic units or special populations, as assigned. These responsibilities may vary by year, or time of year based upon staff interests and unit needs. The person will also deliver core presentations throughout the year to varied audiences. The Career Advisor will help students explore interests, majors, and careers through on-line resources and interpretation of career assessments. Position will maintain relationships with employers related to career interests of students; including, but not limited to, maintaining approximately 10 employer partnerships per year to increase their participation in recruiting activities and working with external relations and other Career Services team members to implement employer events.
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education or related field plus 2 years of experience in university or other education setting, including 1:1 student interactions, preferably with career or academic advising required. Must have demonstrated organization, time management, verbal, and written communication skills. Experience with public speaking required. Experience must demonstrate an ability to learn extensive career information, policies and procedures. Must be proficient with word processing, database, spreadsheet, email and presentation software. Ability to work independently necessary.
