GENERAL OVERVIEW: The KU Engineering Career Center (ECC) strives to provide all engineering students with high quality information, resources, and opportunities so they may confidently pursue their desired career goals, and assist them in their efforts to successfully connect with employers or graduate/professional school programs. As a member of this Career Center team, the Assistant Director will provide the strategic employer outreach/relations necessary to increase career-related opportunities for KU School of Engineering students as well as advise / educate students about the career development, planning, and implementation process. This position is a full-time, regular appointment. Some travel as well as occasional weekend/evening work will be required as the needs of the position demand. RESPONSIBILITIES: Employer Outreach & Relationship Maintenance (45%) - Promote the KU School of Engineering students and programs, establishing and expanding relationships/partnerships. - Target companies/organizations that best match the interests and skills of KU students, cultivating long-term strategic relationships and adapting innovative strategies to develop potential employers into recruiting partners. - Maintain and enhance relationships with organizations that already have a KU presence. - Coordinate with Deans, departments, and other relevant individuals in the School of Engineering to identify and prioritize areas or industries for employer development. Encourage multiple level recruiting relationships. - Collaborate with other Career Services Centers as well as KU entities (e.g. Alumni Association, Endowment) as appropriate, to develop and implement marketing strategies for employer outreach. - Develop strategic relationships with and acknowledge alumni who reach back to assist others. - Create and produce publications/promotional materials targeted toward employers and alumni. Manage information on the employer and relevant alumni portion of the Career Center Website. - Oversee and coordinate with other Career Services staff to maintain accuracy of the employer database - Attend appropriate conferences and events to represent KU and connect with company representatives, - Track outreach activities, evaluate results, prepare relevant reports, and present progress information to key stakeholders on a consistent basis. - Partner with Director in providing data on market trends, industry changes, and employment prospects. Student Advising & Instruction (40%) - Identify and understand students’ career development needs; assist students to develop career related action or learning plans; as well as select and implement career coaching/advising education and interventions. - Utilize and interpret career assessments as appropriate. - Design and present career related workshops and presentations. - Use and refer students to relevant career, occupational, and employment information - Consult with students on job search tools / strategies and assist them in connecting with employment and experiential learning opportunities. - Increase and coordinate assistance to students seeking international based positions ECC Program Activities (10%) - Lead and/or assist with planning and coordination of ECC programs and events - Assist with ECC marketing and communication - Supervise or assist with supervision of student assistants Other duties as assigned (5%) KU is an EO/AAE. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s degree with minimum of three years of relevant experience or Master’s with minimum of one year relevant experience. 2. Excellent written and verbal communications skills as evidenced by application materials and interview. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology or related field. 2. Extensive experience in relevant field. 3. Exceptional interpersonal skills; the ability to build relationships and interact on a professional level at all times. 4. Ability to promote School of Engineering students with energy, enthusiasm, and creativity. 5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both collaboratively and independently. 6. Strong planning and organization skills.
