Midwest ACE Research Opportunities


Midwest ACE encourages its members to conduct and/or participate in research that is valuable to college career centers and/or employers. Annually, Midwest ACE offers two grant opportunities to support relevant research projects that can be shared with the membership.



John Steele Grant

The John Steele Grant was established to recognize the contributions of John Steele, one of the founders of the association now known as Midwest ACE. It seeks to support and encourage new research in career planning and college recruiting.


The recipient of the Steele Grant will be named at the Midwest ACE Trends in Recruiting Conference in Nov. and present their research results at the Midwest ACE Annual Conference in Jul. 2017. The recipient will also be awarded up to $1000.00.


No previous research experience is required to apply.

 

Examples of relevant research include:

  • Benchmarking survey of employers or college/university career centers
  • Evaluation and effectiveness of a new recruiting or career services program or initiative.
  • How do students make a decision on where to start their career?
  • What are the elements of an effective internship program?
  • Do underrepresented students have the same level of access to unpaid internships?

Eligibility

  • Principal researcher must be a current Midwest ACE member in good standing
  • Research has not yet been completed or conducted

John D. Shingleton Award for Innovation

The John D. Shingleton Award for Innovation is given for the best application of completed research or assessment that strengthens or enhances career services and recruitment practices.


The winner of the Shingleton Award will be announced at the Midwest ACE Trends in Recruiting Conference in Nov. and present their research results at the Midwest ACE Annual Conference in Jul. 2017, at which time a $250.00 award will also be presented.

 

Eligibility

  • Principal researcher must be a current Midwest ACE member in good standing
  • Research must already be completed

Selection Criteria

The Professional Development Committee will evaluate applications and proposals based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance and usefulness to Midwest ACE membership
  • Innovation and originality
  • Clarity of purpose and goals
  • Quality and appropriateness of design
  • Overall quality of the proposal
