Assistant Director for Employer Relations

Job Description:

DePauw University is a nationally recognized liberal arts university set on a beautiful campus of 695 acres in west central Indiana. This institution, which includes one of the nation's oldest schools of music, is dedicated to academically challenging and socially engaging students from across the country and around the globe. The Assistant Director for Employer Development in the Kathryn F. Hubbard Center for Student Engagement contributes to the development and implementation of purposeful experiential learning opportunities in support of the mission and goals of the University in addition to the development of post-graduate opportunities. This position will serve as the contact person for employers, graduate schools, and alumni who wish to engage with DePauw students. This position will also conduct outreach, by phone, electronically, and in person, to possible employers of interest in order to increase opportunities for our students for internships and full-time, post-graduation positions. The Assistant Director will also plan and coordinate events with select visiting alumni and will assist with other Career Services events. Excellent communication skills and organizational skills are required as this person must be able to generate the interest and participation of alumni and employers. Finally, this position must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, provide outstanding customer service, and be an enthusiastic professional able to build relationships with internal and external constituents, including alumni, employers, parents, students, staff and faculty. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Outreach Activities • Leads employment relations efforts for the University. • Coordinates college employer relations efforts with alumni engagement office, development office, the honors and fellows programs, and other appropriate groups on campus. • Performs aggressive outreach by cold calling qualified leads, following up on leads, networking, connecting through social media, and sending direct mail in order to yield jobs and internships for students. • Coordinates contacts between employers, parents, graduate schools, alumni, students, faculty, support staff, and the University. • Mines information to determine possible contacts beneficial to DePauw University students. • Determines which contacts would be appropriate for recruiting, internships, job shadowing, mentoring, programs, or a combination of these. • Actively encourages contacts to volunteer, and sign up for, these opportunities to connect with DePauw students. • Attends alumni events, conferences, and other events where appropriate contacts may be in attendance. • Tracks employer and alumni contacts, assigns to other staff members if appropriate, follows-up to ensure contact is progressing. 2. Event Coordination • Develops programs for students which incorporate alumni and/or employers, particularly regarding high level contacts such as Board of Trustee, Board of Visitors and Alumni Board. • Be the primary contact for Alumni Fellows Program to campus. • Coordinates the DePauw-Kelly Winter Term class. • Organizes programming, including location and marketing. • Assists with career and graduate school fairs and uses these as opportunities to network. 3. Advising & Policies • Compiles and assesses data and writes assigned sections of the annual report. • Assists director with the development of policies and procedures. • Advises students as needed.


Job Requirements:

Education and Experience: Bachelors degree with 5-7 years work-related experience, or Master's degree with 3 - 5 years of experience, preferably in business or non-profit management. Communication skills and the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment is essential as is the ability to envision the big picture while effectively executing operational details. Must be willing to network with the purpose of gaining jobs and internships for undergraduate students. An understanding and appreciation of the liberal arts as it relates to the world of work is vital in addition to initiative and the ability to establish goals and metrics for success. Also important is the ability to identify the needs of multiple stakeholders; to build coalitions; to create dynamic programs and new initiatives; to communicate (written and presentations) effectively; to compile, analyze, and present data; to favor a collaborative approach; and facilitate connection.
