Exempt, Full-time position, 12 month schedule Reports To: Director of Employer Relations and Internships Overview: Provides comprehensive career services to students across all majors from their first year through graduation and beyond. This position works a 12 month schedule. Develops, monitors and oversees a comprehensive offering of programs, events and services designed to assist students in the area of internships/career services and development. Works collaboratively with colleagues within the CORE office (Careers Opportunities Research Exploration) to integrate services and meet the needs of students, faculty, alumni and the community at large. Creates programs and service offerings to ensure Augustana students are well prepared for the real world of work. Job Duties: 1. Meets with students individually or in groups to promote and coordinate Career Development office activities and programs. Provides expertise in a number of areas, including career exploration, job search strategies, resume construction, graduate school application, and interview preparation. 2. Assists students with resume construction, combining student work with professional expertise to create excellent outcomes. Also provides help in constructing effective cover letters and graduate school personal statements. 3. Provide timely feedback to student, faculty, and staff requests. 4. Contributes to the development of program guidelines and policies. 5. Critiques and approves resumes submitted by students through online systems. 6. Meets with students to provide mock interviews, including providing feedback to students and information on interview preparation. 7. Guides students in strategies for job searching and graduate school applications. 8. Works with student Career Ambassadors, providing direction and support and ensuring high quality assistance and outcomes are provided. Assists in creation of effective training programs for student Career Ambassadors. 9. Conducts ongoing assessment and evaluation of programs; prepare summary report on learning outcomes and participation of students. 10. Promotes Career Development events and services to students through marketing methods such as social media, emails, flyers, information tables, and maintenance of the Career Development website. 11. Develops and provides engaging presentations and workshops for students on a wide variety of career topics as needed. 12. Collaborates with faculty and staff across campus to identify current and future needs of students of different majors, providing direction, support, and information on internship/career issues. 13. Researches, writes, and/or gathers informational resources for students on career topics for publication and online distribution. 14. Assists CORE staff as needed with events and projects, including on-campus interviews, career fairs, workshops, high school visit days, and information sessions. 15. Other duties as assigned.
Education B.A. in a related field. M.A. in student personnel or related field preferred. Experience: - 2+ years of demonstrated, career services, human resources, academic counseling or other related experience strongly preferred. - Experience working with young adults or in a higher education setting is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of the Liberal Arts setting is highly preferred. Skills and Abilities - Demonstrated passion for engaging and working effectively with the college population. - Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and collaborate with campus partners to achieve department and college goals. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Self-motivated with the ability to work with limited supervision. - Ability to develop excellent rapport with students in a one on one setting. - Ability to multi-task and create excellent work outcomes. - Ability to think creatively and develop programs to meet the changing needs of a diverse student base. - Proficient with of Microsoft Office Products and social media. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Special Requirements: This position requires out of town travel to conduct site visits and represent the College at relevant higher education professional association meetings and job fairs, estimated at 20-25 days per year. Evening and weekend work is required on a regular basis including non-traditional hours to meet the needs of the Augustana student population. Current valid driver’s license is required. Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check.
