Job Description:

Internship and Career Advisor College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Butler University is seeking an Internship and Career Advisor who is charged with providing personalized internship/career counseling for students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS), including career and internship exploration, preparation and planning. In addition, this person is responsible for collaborating with and assisting departmental faculty and administrators within LAS in identifying and expanding internships, externships and experiential learning opportunities for students in the liberal arts. This position has a dual reporting role to an associate dean in LAS and the director of Internship & Career Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist individual LAS students in exploring options and educating them on the search process to locate internships that match their career goals

  • Assist individual LAS students in internship preparation including development of resumes and practice interviewing skills

  • Create and deliver presentations on internship and career planning for specific LAS departments and majors

  • Meet with LAS faculty in each department and program on an annual basis to discuss current student internship and job experiences and opportunities

  • Work with LAS departments and programs to expand the number of available internship, externship, and experiential education opportunities

  • Meet with prospective students and parents at LAS recruiting events to promote career option awareness

  • Serve as a gateway between employers seeking LAS interns or graduates by advertising open positions to faculty, staff, and students in desired majors

  • Work closely with Internship & Career Services to cross-promote services and programming, engage recruiters and serve as the LAS representative on the Career Services Advisory Board

  • Create marketing and outreach techniques to encourage student consultation with the LAS Internship and Career Advisor position and engagement with ICS generally

  • Create and gather assessment data on programming and make changes based upon results and learning outcomes

  • Work to establish relationships with LAS department faculty and staff to expand service usage and understanding generally of Internship and Career Services

  • Maintain/develop professional competency by attending professional conferences and other events to network, develop professionally and establish/maintain appropriate contacts

  • Other duties as assigned by the ICS Director/LAS Deans and departments. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum qualifications and requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in a liberal arts field

  • At least two years of experience working with college students in one of the following capacities: student affairs, counseling, advising, or career services

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in a career services setting

  • Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling or related field

  • Expertise administering and interpreting the Strong Interest Inventory and the MBTI

  • Prior experience with career management, event planning, spreadsheet and database software and web software
