The Associate Director for Engineering Professional Development and Admissions will spend 60% of the time working on professional development (engineering career services, co-op/intern program, employer and alumni development) and 40% of the time on admissions and the first-year experience (recruiting activities, orientation, transitional programming).
Engineering Professional Development (EPD) supports and facilitates the academic, professional and personal development of students within the College of Engineering by developing, implementing, marketing and documenting experiential education opportunities which help fulfill the mission of the engineering college, the objectives and outcomes of its curriculum and department, and to meet the needs of the employers, organizations, and communities we serve.
Professional development activities will include, employment advising and programming for engineering undergraduate and graduate students on experiential education, study abroad, cooperative education, professional etiquette, company research, and employment. Specific advising issues will include resume construction and use, negotiating, interviewing, electronic communications and personal branding.
Engineering Admissions and First Year Experience identifies and recruits prospective engineering students, conducts outreach programs and yield activities, and facilitates the transition of students from diverse social, economic, cultural, educational backgrounds to the College of Engineering. Admissions and first-year experience activities will include designing and implementing admissions, recruitment and orientation activities.
He/She will represent the College of Engineering at events both on and off campus. He/She will assist with the selection and supervision of Student Ambassadors, the development of marketing materials, and conducting campus visits for prospective students and families. The Associate Director will present seminars and workshops in line with the strategic plan of the college. He/She will work closely with the director of engineering professional development and the director of engineering admissions and first-year experience, as well as faculty, alumni, employers, students, and other university offices. Additional responsibilities will include engineering career fairs, diversity and networking receptions, on- and off-campus recruiting events, reporting and documentation of experiential education and employment statistics, and other duties as assigned by the directors of EPD and Admissions/First Year Experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master’s degree in Student Services, Counseling, or Business with an emphasis in HR or Marketing is preferred. Reasonable (1-3 years) administrative, supervisory or program experience is required.
Six months-one year of career and/or co-op/internship advising experience is required.
Six months-one year of admissions experience at the collegiate level, experience with engineering students preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Must be proficient in computer software applications.
Six months-one year experience coordinating large, complex events is preferred.
Six months-one year experience coordinating experiential education, working with employers, and providing employment advising, specifically with engineering students, is preferred.
Six months-one year public speaking experience is preferred.
Experience using Facebook and LinkedIn as professional tools is preferred.
