2013 – 2014 Elections
Director of Professional Development
Ellen Bartkowiak
Edgewood College
Madison, WI
Why are you interested in serving Midwest ACE through this position?
Whether I’m learning about new recruiting trends from employers, sharing best practices with colleagues, or partnering with other schools on events, MW-ACE has been a vital resource to me. I feel that this is my opportunity to give back and contribute to the organization.
What skills and experiences do you have that have prepared you to be successful in this role?
I have been a member of MW-ACE since 1996 and took a brief hiatus while I worked in the MBA world but now I’m back. I feel that as a returning member I have a fresh perspective and the desire to connect with people. This would be a great opportunity to share my experiences from both public and private career centers, the undergrad and MBA world, and listen to the needs of the Membership to provide cutting edge professional development.
What ideas and/or goals do you have for this position?
Well, I think it's a given that we have to continue to learn and talk about 'social media' in recruiting. Things change and happen so fast that I'd be interested in talking with the Professsional Development Directors from the other 'ACES' (Southeast, Northeast, etc.) just to know what they're seeing. Whether employers are searching LinkedIn, tweeting on Twitter or pinning on Pinterest; we need to know for the benefit to our students. I think it's also important to know what certifications or continuing education we need as career professionals. I'm interested in hearing more from the new professionals in the industry to share their knowledge from their programs.
