2013 – 2014 Elections
Director of College Membership
University of Michigan Engineering
Ann Arbor, MI
Why are you interested in serving Midwest ACE through this position?
For the past 2 years I have been a Chair of Midwest ACE Membership Committee and I look forward to an opportunity to grow within the organization using this experience as the foundation. As a College representative myself, and also as the Chair of Membership, I have prepared myself well for the Director of College Membership role. I have many ideas which could add value to college-members experience in our organization, and I would be glad to put some of these ideas into practice. Even though College Members are the vast majority of our organization, I know that not only can I bring more value to their experience but also help grow the overall membership for the organization.
What skills and experiences do you have that have prepared you to be successful in this role?
I believe my past Midwest ACE experience makes me a perfect candidate for Director of College Membership role on the Executive Board. I have been on the MWACE Membership Committee since 2009, and I have chaired this Committee for 2 years. Under my leadership the Committee’s work has been praised on numerous occasions. We not only help bring new members to the organization but also continuously offer programming (webinars, Ambassador Programs, outreach, etc.) for existing members to ensure our retention rate remains high.
In addition, having been involved with our organization as a member of several pre-conference Committees has helped me develop strong connections with other leaders in the organization as well as learn in detail about the roles of various Committees and their Board Liaisons.
One of my pre-Higher Education experiences was in retail management. I led a retail store with very aggressive monthly and yearly performance goals and I consistently reached my goals. This is a great quality to add to my already strong case. I have a strong sales background which, I am sure, will help continue to bring more College members on board as well as help identify areas that would be most attractive to the existing members.
Finally, I have been with the U-M Engineering Career Resource Center for 5 years where my primary role has been building partnerships with employers. I would be glad to bring this expertise to the Board and help develop more ways for collaboration between colleges and employer-members.
What ideas and/or goals do you have for this position?
One of the main goals would be to work closely with the Committees delegated to me to ensure they set and follow-through on their goals, including goals of enhancing experience of college-members and attracting new members.
Another goal might be to develop a database/chart of services already offered to College members, identify strengths and weaknesses of each existing service as well as identify areas for improvement.
