Academic Program Manager for Butler Advance College of Liberal Arts and Sciences/Internship and Career Services In 2014, Butler University is inaugurating Butler Advance, focused on helping students cultivate key attributes needed for professional success and the transition to careers in Indiana. With the support of the Lilly Endowment’s Initiative to Promote Opportunities Through Educational Collaborations, Butler Advance will build collaborations among the wider business, non-profit, and higher education communities, as well as across Butler’s six colleges. The program will include summer and academic year components, initiatives promoting integrated academic and career advising, and enhance exploration, experiential learning and career preparation across all college majors, with special emphasis liberal arts majors. A central element of Butler Advance will be a four-week intensive summer program, beginning in 2015, open to students from all Indiana colleges and universities, as well as to Indiana residents (with at least junior standing) who go to school out of state. The summer component will offer: • An introduction to business fundamentals including marketing, finance, accounting, and economics • Hands-on practice in communication, teamwork, and creative problem solving. • Application of liberal arts skills to real business case studies and interactive exercises. • Development of critical career management and leadership skills through interactions with executive leaders and innovators across Indiana. • Exposure to specific internship and career opportunities through projects at regional business, nonprofit, and government organizations. Butler University seeks a creative, collaborative leader to facilitate program design and development, implements, and manage this innovative program. This is a full-time, 12-mos. Position reporting jointly to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Director of Internship and Career Services at Butler University.
Responsibilities: • Engage leaders of the business community to develop relationships for partnership program • Engage employers to enhance opportunities for internship placement and full time positions for Butler students • Collaborate with faculty on Butler Advance program design, development, and implementation • Serve as advocate and educator for adoption of “best practices” in career preparation and integrated career and academic advising, in collaboration with the LAS Internship and Career Advisor and other Student Academic Affairs professional staff • Actively recruit Butler faculty and employers to develop related curriculum and teach in the Butler Advance program, including both academic year and summer components • Market Butler Advance to build participation in all aspects of the academic year program • Promote summer program to build participation by Butler students and outside constituents to • Communicate and collaborate with external partners to develop experiential learning and project-based curricular elements for program • Recruit and facilitate Advisory Board made up key stakeholders, including employment leaders, Butler faculty members, staff, and administrators • Develop, manage, and report assessment of Butler Advance program and employer and faculty development programs • Work with LAS Internship and Career Advisor to design and deliver faculty development and student learning opportunities • Complete annual grant reporting to Lilly Endowment Minimum Requirements and Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred • Liberal arts educational background preferred; some business experience preferred • Demonstrated success in working with faculty and undergraduate students preferred • Minimum three years’ experience in relationship development , involving internal and external constituencies • Experience in program development and administration, preferably in higher education • Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously • Excellent oral and written communications skills Butler University is committed to enhancing the diversity of the student body, faculty and staff.
