Job Description Reporting to the Director of the Career Center, the Career Development Advisor is responsible for assisting the Director and staff in the overall coordination and implementation of programs and services provided by the Career Center. The ideal candidate can work well with students, faculty, staff, employers and alumni. Provide career counseling through scheduled and walk-in appointments. Advise students on their job, internship and graduate school searches, and critique students' written job search materials (resumes, cover letters and personal statements). Assist with existing programs and services that include, but not limited to, Career and Graduate School Fairs; mock interviews; and helping to further expand our Alumni Career Network. Design, create and conduct career-related programs and workshops for undergraduate and graduate students of all colleges and majors. Collaborate and work with alumni, faculty, employers and a variety of offices on campus including, but not limited to academic departments, Alumni Relations, Admission and the Graduate School. This is a full-time 12-month position Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds. Employment at Valparaiso University will require a criminal background check. Required Skills Additional specific qualifications preferred include: Familiarity with assessment instruments (i.e. Strong, MBTI, etc.) Proficiency with Microsoft Windows including word processing, knowledge of database programs, and Internet research.

Candidates must have an understanding of and support the mission and values of Lutheran higher education. Master's degree required. Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling or related field is strongly preferred. Experience in a career office. Experience working with college students, faculty, staff and employers.
