Job Description

The University of Missouri-Kansas City invites applications and nominations for the Director of Career Services. This position, one of thirteen directors within the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor and provides campus leadership for the activities that support student career development through a comprehensive list of campus programming and career counseling options.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Career Services will direct the financial, operational, and personnel activities of a comprehensive Career Services Center. The Director will develop and monitor the annual operating budget, including special grants and contracts, and prepare proposals for new career development and recruiting services programs, as well as prepare annual reports for the division. The Director will lead and implement a comprehensive career development experience as per the strategic plan and timeline. They will oversee all employer relations and internship activities with an increased focus on establishing a campus wide internship program. The Director will develop and implement innovative strategies for assisting undergraduate and graduate/professional students in making career decisions and job search strategies that are consistent with individual student interests, aptitudes and goals. The Director will serve as a liaison with the academic units coordinating career development activities and events, disseminating career information, conducting presentations and other career related services to meet the needs of their students and area recruiters. The Director will supervise individual and group career counseling activities as well as help innovate new ways to engage students in the career development milestones that connect academic choices and career aspirations with job choices of decided and deciding students. The Director will serve on committees related to student affairs and lead divisional special projects as assigned.


Job Requirements 

Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Candidates should have a graduate degree in higher education, psychology, counseling, or other social science field, as well as at least six years of higher education experience with an emphasis in career development. Experience delivering career planning, career counseling, building employer partnerships and career education programs in higher education with an emphasis on serving in a comprehensive career services center that connects students’ academic and life experiences with meaningful career outcomes. Familiarity with Symplicity computer programing software.

$66,000 -$71,900 to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
